Patent leather is a hard durable leather and to me it is easier to take care than lambskin leather which scratches easily. Of course it is up to you how you handle your bag. The chain is a braided patent leather in a dark silver color chain, with signs of wear, see pictures. Still holds great shape, but not perfectly shaped.
